The City School District of New Rochelle continues to investigate unacceptable issues with the private vendors that provide busing for the school district. These issues – communication, protocols regarding COVID-19 safety, buses that are late or do not show up, and bus-driver training – impact student learning. To get a close-up look, Superintendent Jonathan Raymond this morning visited the bus depot, then rode a Barnard Early Childhood Center bus with students. During his travel, he spoke with the bus yard manager, a dispatcher, driver and a bus monitor. While on the bus, he experienced the heavy morning traffic that resulted in the bus being late for a pickup stop. At Barnard, he saw the great job being done by faculty and staff who greeted students and guided them into the building. He plans to ride another bus Wednesday and will continue to update the community on his findings and potential next steps.

Award for NRHS Musical! Innovation pays off! New Rochelle High School has been honored by the New York State School Boards Association’s Champions of Change program for last spring’s musical, "Is There Life After High School?" Due to COVID-19 precautions, students and staff could not put on the show as they usually do, with in-person rehearsals and performances. However, the show must go on, and drama teacher Anthony Stirpe and the determined high school students created a virtual show by recording and editing on Apple products such as iPhones and Macintosh computers. Apple gave international exposure to the presentation through its Apple Newsroom. The association presented a banner in recognition of the production’s creativity during the New Rochelle Board of Education meeting Thursday. Photo caption; From left: New Rochelle High School Director of Performing & Visual Arts Deepak Marwah; New Rochelle High’s Julie McGough, the production’s choreographer; Davis Elementary School’s Regina Talbot, the show’s vocal music director; and Patrick Longo, member relations manager of the New York State School Boards Association.
